Hey Creeps, Ask Permission Before You Touch My Butt

If you ask, it's not a guarantee that I'll say yes, but it's a start... What I really mean to say is that whenever I'm dancing at a party, club or bar, I'd appreciate it if strange men would stop and think before they latch onto my backside like a parasite. For some reason, this has become an acceptable practice. Some creepers think it's OK because they still continue to do it. Well, it's not OK. People, do you agree?

It not only disrespects the body, it also insults the mind. Creeps just grab women without the slightest effort to talk to them or get to know them. Fellas, if you don't wanna get to know the person, you shouldn't get the right to dance on them. And it's not even dancing at all because we all know awkwardly moving your hips side to side is just awkward turtle. Proper dancing is a whole another idea. But honestly, I don't shrivel up and freeze once a creeper starts grinding up on me. It just irritates me that it happens way too often. When it happens, I move a little bit and maneuver away from that man-child. Yes, you're a man-child to me because you are either a) a drunken buffoon, b) a misogynistic buffoon, c) a cowardly buffoon or d) all of the above. No, I don't want no scrub.

Dancing should be fun. Guys, there's a proper way to dance. And let's be real: if your ultimate goal is to sleep with a girl, there are better ways to approach her. The mind holds the keys to the bedroom. If you want to get to know a lady, give her respect. There are a few ways:

    Start of Spring Break

... a time to relax, catch up on sleep and sit on my but all day. I've been sick for the past few days so I'll give myself time for these wonderful activities I rarely do doing the school year.

I have to relax now because this Friday will be busy. Conference weekend. Let's hope it's not the death of me. I should be excited for it, but we'll just have to see.

Anyway, I've planned a few more things I have to do before the week is over:
    - Go shopping for some dress pants! Get my brows did.
    - Practice all ISA moves. I had a dream Isaiah, dance coord, yelled at me for missing 2am practice... so mustn't let him down in reality.
    - Go to Boston on St. Paddy's Day. 'nuff said.
    - Memorize all of Aksyon workshops.
    - Go to Conference!

That's it so far. I hope I'm not forgetting anything else. Happy break y'all!

    Running with it

I've found myself urging to exercise more - run on that track, whip the molecules of air around me, think and escape. Sometimes, writing is like running. You're working to this end goal - this finish line. And when you're done, you look back and you know you accomplished something.

It's been awhile since I've blogged for myself. But a lot of things keep racing around and bumping up and down in my brain, so I guess I just need to place it on this page. Store it here for safe keeping.

Since I've solidified my majors, IR and PR, CAS and COM, I've realized I have to do a shit ton of writing. I actually miss playing with numbers. But I'll never stop writing. It's funny that I'm still writing now after last Thursday (Essay, Essay Exam, Essay Project, Essay Project)... a ton of writing. But this is me. I am a writer. Not clear to me before, I've always written - ever since that first third grade poetry journal that molded into my first real journal - to my middle school Xanga blog - to my emotive high school Fictionpress days - to here and now.

BU Culture Shock: Let's Talk about Text, Baby

No, really let's talk about texting. Texting annoys me sometimes.

For the most part, I completely understand its practicality. We text to make plans, contact each other and communicate quick bits of info. Texting is easy and useful and that's why society ingrained it into our daily interactions. Because it is the norm, I can't escape it.

Let me tell you why texting is a nuisance to me:

My latest Culture Shock post: Lead the Follow

I haven't updated this in ages, but from now on, all my culture shock posts will also be here. Read on:

It takes energy to be a leader, but the follower is the most important part of the equation in any type of movement. Without any followers, the leader is nothing. Britney/(Brittany) is nothing without her fans...

As a member of a club's executive board, I've been critical of leadership lately and what it takes to be an effective leader. Leaders face many challenges, and for their commitment I give them my respect and major eProps. However, some leaders just don't get it. And by it, I mean they don't realize that it takes the commitment of the follower to accomplish the task or movement (I know I'm not being specific, but my generalization is applicable to many groups). There is a difference between command and execution, between telling someone to do something and getting them to do it. Leadership is a collaborative effort.

When it comes to executive membership, I'd like to apply game theory to my reasoning. Every member has the option to defect from their duties. Of course, if you've chosen a leadership position, you should care about your job because your work ethic determines your credibility. E-board members should work for the best interests of the club because its best interests should advance their own goals. But not all members choose to cooperate because let's get real; you have the choice to sit on your lazy butt and not do anything. (That's when an overarching police force comes in handy).

But I'm digressing from my point, that is leaders should not force. And no one should carry that attitude that everyone is going to defect in their own interest. So leaders, what's the best way to guarantee a following?

    Shots of Soup

Last night, I borrowed Antoinette's Pentax cam and took several pictures of Campbell's Tomato Soup...
It was for our COM 201 AD CAMPAIGN assignment, where we have to create a panel for the Greater Boston Food Bank. I know we could've easily google image searched a pic of this iconic image, but I had too much fun experimenting w/ different angles and lighting (with the working light bulbs on our flex-arm lamp, and a backdrop made out of my white macbook and a couple sheets of computer paper). I think I want a high-res camera of my own.

    I love this unchanged image:
